This course is for the person who wants to change their direction in life, be their own boss and work their own hours. With the willingness to work and a love of animals this business can be run successfully from home or commercial environment. This course is designed to provide you with a complete foundation for owning or running a grooming business.

The Professional grooming course:

We will take you through all the basic skills already described on the Groomers Course PLUS your training will be enhanced with tuition in advanced scissoring and clipping techniques, hand stripping and corrective styling. We will also show you pet styles that are “funky” for that “designer pet” ideal particularly for pets that wear pet clothing. We will be introducing time management, how to speed groom without compromising quality.

Also we introduce: Cat grooming:
    
At our salon we also specialise in cat grooming without sedation, working for short periods of time, guided by the cat's nature and allowing for rest in between each session.

Most mats can be combed out but in the most severe cases, clipping off may be the only option; we provide & teach you clips such as the “lion clip”.

You will be shown:

• How to handle cats
• Nail clipping
• Ear cleaning Full groom & Mat removal or Clip
• Full Lion clips
• Bathing (if required)

We will also show you an insight into alternative healing for animals.

Beyond the skills of grooming you will gain experience in client relations and will receive advice and a detailed personal information pack on running your own business - from starting up costs in your own home to opening a shop premises, to marketing, development, we will ensure you save money choosing the right products for marketing as well as grooming supplies. Contact details for suppliers of equipment, and lists of equipment - both essential and desirable - to start your own business. We will go through pricing structures and record keeping.

This course can be taken in blocks of two - 1 x 10 days & 1 x 5 days to fit in with family and work commitments

Overalls and all equipment can be supplied during the course.
Please ensure you wear flat sensible footwear not sandals or flip flops. Bring a note pad, pen & a camera!!

Tailored completely for individual requirements– The possibilities are endless.....

• A course intended for Groomers that have had at least 12 months experience or who solely want to open a cat grooming salon without having to use sedation.
• For Groomers that have taken a sabbatical or possibly maternity leave & would like a boost of confidence & require a quick intense refresher course with professional groomers in a working salon.
• For Groomers that need to cover aspects of grooming that you feel you need to improve on i.e precise clipping lines, hand stripping, carding, or scissoring techniques & artistic work.
• To concentrate or introduce Cat grooming/clipping /bathing into an existing Grooming salon or a breeders home / work space without the use of sedation.
• An additional week’s course for students that feel they need more time to practice in a working salon.

Students Completing the Courses will receive certificate of achievements.

When you have at least 18 months practical dog grooming experience after the course, as “quoted” by the British Dog Groomers association; you should be ready to enrol for the City & Guilds/NPTC Advanced Dog Grooming Certificate if you so wish. The qualification consists of written and practical examinations on a range of dogs and coat types. It proves to future employers that you have been correctly trained, and gives your clients confidence in your ability.

Beyond this, the British Dog Groomers' Association runs a Higher Diploma in Dog Grooming, an advanced test to show the expertise and skill required from the experienced groomer in a commercial environment. The exam consists of written and practical elements.

(Finish times will depend on your progress & speed in the day normally finishing between 4pm & 7pm)
